COMPANY OF ANGELS PRESENTS "L.A. VIEWS II--TALES OF PRESENT PAST"

A new production inspired by Silent Era Movie Stars who populated the once-glorious Alexandria Hotel with grandeur and elegance.

Luminaries of the Silent Era are the inspiration of contemporary Los Angeles playwrights in "L.A. Views II--TALES OF PRESENT PAST." This moving and comic chronicle, set during the heydays and nowadays of Downtown Los Angeles' Alexandria Hotel, shines a light on the parallel lives of those who have inhabited this building in its heyday and those who dwell in its present embodiment. This production examines lives once lived at their most celebrated, while contrasting the reality of current existence that approaches irrelevance and obscurity.

L.A. Views II: TALES OF PRESENT PAST opens April 17 at Company of Angels inside The Black Box at The Alexandria, 501 S. Spring Street, Downtown Los Angeles for a four-week engagement on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, and reservations are recommended. The Black Box at The Alexandria is the new home of Company of Angels, Los Angeles' oldest non-profit theater company. (This year, the company celebrates its 50th anniversary.)

"L.A. Views II" is the second installment of the Company's hugely popular Playwrights Group project, "L.A. Views," which debuted in 2008. Among the inspirations for this show are Enrico Caruso, Sessue Hayakawa, Alla Nazimova, Pola Negri, Mabel Normand, Ramon Novarro, Mary Pickford, and Rudolph Valentino.

Participating playwrights include Damon Chua, Leon Martell, Jamison Newlander, Henry Ong, S. Vasanti Saxena, Lilly Thomassian, Brenda Varda and Kyle T. Wilson. Directors are Tony Gatto (supervising director), Jamison Newlander, Lui Sanchez and Nurit Siegel. The executive producer of the show is Marlene Forte. Please see attached for biographies and "inspiration."

"We are very excited about 'L.A. Views II,'" said Armando Molina, artistic director of Company of Angels. "We had such a wonderful reception to 'L.A. Views' last year that we decided to make this an annual event. This is the only short-play festival with Los Angeles playwrights handling Los Angeles issues. This year, we chose for our inspiration the people who made our new home--The Alexandria--a special place in its heyday. In presenting these plays, we hope to connect the past to the present, and look forward to being a part of the revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles by incubating exciting new works and providing meaningful theater here."

Company of Angels is located at 501 S. Spring Street, Los Angeles, at The Alexandria on the 3rd floor. Founded in 1959 as an artists' cooperative, the company will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a gala event in October. The theater produces works that reflect the diversity that is Los Angeles and the issues the City faces. The company holds bimonthly playwrights group sessions, accepts original material for first-run production and fosters staged readings and workshops on a regular basis.
