"There is only one significant female reggaeton rapper; Ivy Queen"
-The New York Times
Ivy Queen is a Latin Grammy nominated reggaetón composer and singer. She is most commonly known as Ivy Queen "La Reina Del Reggaeton," but is also referred to as "The Queen of Bachata."
Hailing from Puerto Rico, Ivy Queen has had a long career as an independent thinker and trailblazing female artist.
Growing tired of the violent and explicit sexual lyrics rampant in the reggaeton music scene, Ivy struck out on her own in 1997, releasing a debut album, En Mi Imperio. A second album from Sony, The Original Rude Girl, appeared a year later in 1998, followed by the much anticipated Diva, which was released in 2003 on Real Music.
Her latest album, Drama Queen was released in 2010, and spawned the hit singles "La Vida Es Asi" and "Amor Puro."
Ivy has an astonishingly tough, strong stage presence, always in powerful command. About her music, Ivy says: "I sing what's real, what I feel in the moment. My songs are a reflection of what happens day to day."
