Opening Night Reception: Saturday, July 14, 2012 7-10 pm
The "Revolving Landscape" is an endless theatrical backdrop with a constantly evolving batch of characters, printed in the faded blue of a willow china tea set.
The characters: Like a mysterious old carousel, each character tells a story in its timeless voice. New characters will replace them down the road. Each individual will be printed in very small, limited editions of 10, so catch them while you can!
The Backdrops: Each revolving backdrop fits together in a continuous line, and new narratives play out between the characters as the scenes are placed together. Collect new stories by arranging and rearranging the prints.
The technique: Classic linoleum cut block printing on French rag paper, with Japanese gampi chin colle. Hand carved and editioned at She Rides the Lion studio, Los Angeles.
Avenue 50 Studio is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission; the California Community Foundation; the Department of Cultural Affairs; the California Council for the Humanities; and The James Irvine Foundation
