ChimMaya invites you to our 7th Annual Dia de los Muertos exhibition opening on Sunday, October 21st.

Traditionally, our October exhibition would be dedicated to Dia de los Muertos only. Since our show will run through the upcoming Presidential election, we wanted to expand the scope of this year's exhibition, by combining/introducing DOD artwork, to multi-layered social issues (e.g. persecution, intolerance, contrast of religion, cultural differences).

As we researched and invited artists to participate in this show, our focus was on finding artists from diverse backgrounds and cultures, with unique perspectives on Day of the Dead. From our first DOD exhibition 7 years ago, we have witnessed an increased interest and fascination with DOD that has crossed over into popular culture, no longer just a unique curiosity within the Latino Community.

In an ever increasing environment of polarization within our country, class, exceptionalism, and the widening chasm between wealth and poverty, we've selected this year's DOD exhibition to invite artists from the East-to-West Coast and Mexico, to help us celebrate 'Life' and the impact that every action leaves on the social and moral consciousness of our world.

"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." Albert Pike
