Sanctified: Spirituality in Contemporary Art
February 9 to April 26, 2013
Guest Curator: Mary Anna Pomonis
Curator's Walkthrough: Sat., Feb. 9, 4 p.m., followed by Opening Reception, 5 to 7 p.m.
Small Gallery

The exhibition, Sanctified: Spirituality in Contemporary Art, explores transcendence, shamanism and divinity as rubrics of meaning. Conceptually challenging the objective space of the art gallery or white cube, objects and artists create a context for spiritual passage and sanctification. Using the space as a healing ground, this group show proposes two different approaches to creating secular images of the sacred: The first group is composed of artists who make work that is derived from ritualistic action in the studio; the second is a depictive account of aura both serious and cynical.

Participating Artists: Brian Butler, Carole Caroompas, Adrian de la Peña (El Hermano del Editor!) Mark Dutcher, Wendy Given, Todd Gray, Paul Guillemette, Charles Hachadourian, Ron Laboray, Ross Rudel, Linda Stark, Allison Stewart, Paula J. Wilson and Eve Wood .

Public Performance: Saturday, March 9, 2 p.m. Performances by Barfth; Diana Cummins; Krystal Krunch; Nichiren Buddhist Toso, led by Jennifer Juniper-Stratford; STS (Semi-tropic Spiritualist Society); and Ross Rudel.
