News From the Brown Side of Town

?íOrale, Mi Gente!

Weather's getting cooler, days are getting shorter, and still lo's of great music and chismes in the air.

Did you hear the one about the first American state capital to go bankrupt?

Yup!...Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a city older than Los Angeles, owned and run by white folks for generations, tax base of multi-millions, tourist spot on the map and all that...has run aground in this economy, went "belly up" and will be taken over by the State of Pennsylvania, as the City officials have proven too greedy and inept to see things coming a few years ago, and are finally broke....so the State of Pennsylvania will have to dig in their pockets to pay firefighters, teachers, police, and other essential services, the City will be relieved of all debts, but will continue to collect taxes and pay the politicians, who coincidentely voted themselves a hefty 12% raise earlier this year while nobody was watching..and then, they will use the excuse of being broke as another reason to raise taxes and increase costs, fees, and the price of everything, while lowering wages, just to get afloat again....while SOMEBODY snaked off with millions and will live comfortably for the rest of their lives....untouched and unaffected by the laws of the land they were trusted to enforce and live up to...

...and IF they get away with it...other American cities are next. Like I've said before, politicians have become the new gangsters, as they hold Corporation's strings, while corporations have them by the ....well, certain parts of their anatomy that are really sensitive!....and millions of dollars are being snaked off and enjoyed by a select few ...and you & me AREN'T part of that!

I can't tell you how much it chaps my chonies when friends come back home from middle eastern countries (both military & civilian contractors) and they tell me how gas is still less than a dollar a gallon over there, while U.S. oil companies raise the price of gas at the beginning of every driving holiday, crying about rising price oil prices while their profits are in the BILLIONS.....

...and working guys like me still buy Lotto tickets while getting our weekly ration of gas that we can afford....sheesh! Chingators!

Don't get me wrong....I don't mind people getting and being rich, or politicians improving their own lot like they have since this country was founded, but DAMN!...take care of home and our house first, share a little bit of the wealth so we all can eat and drink, too...and THEN live large on your leftover wealth.

We've waited...we've been patient...but now, it's time to knock the undeserving, self-appointed American royalty on their ass. We need to start voting people out of office, put some of these putos y putas in jail for graft, malfeasance, rescind all the new laws they put in place to protect themselves, and just plain old racism, which has been holding us all back.

That's probably why people of the non-colored skin persuasion who don't work for a living are blaming President Obama for everything from the economy to the wars in the midle east,to diaper rash in newborns...he's begun to cut off the non-deserving rich power elite from their free ride on the backs of taxpayers for the first time in American history, and THEY don't like it...and THEY think their subtle attempt at spin politics is fooling us from seeing the racism in their movidas...

...c'mon, rich gabachos! Lighten up and get with the program! You're gonna HAVE to rub shoulders with the common folk eventually!

The new way to riches for the power elite: GO BROKE, and have the Government bail you out! Millions of people STILL work and pay taxes!!!

...and Obama's looking for you rich folks and corporations who don't to help share the cost.

Homeboy Moammar Ghadafi finally got his in Libya, as his own Gente beat him down and put out his lights after he boasted, "The people LOVE me!" Why he and his country, which is smaller and has less people than Los Angeles County alone, has made international headlines for so long really blows my mind....hell, just try to skip out on jury duty or a parking ticket in L.A. and you get harassed, and yet this dude burned, tortured, and killed so many people in 40 years and nobody could stop him,.. and we paid billions in foreign aid and military action in that area while he went about his business....NOW see what we are gonna invest in Libya now that he's gone...

Oh well...let's see what happens this November....

Now...the laugh and joke on the street in Aztlan lately is the one about the once popular L.A. Chicano singer who keeps shooting himself in the foot as he attempts come back after come back...jumping from band to band, manager to manager...now has REALLY stuck his foot in his mouth by getting his vehicle impounded for some pendejada...then tried "fundraising" on FACEBOOK by asking for donations to help get it out, and threatening to delete"friends" if they didn't send him at least a dollar to help him get his vehicle out of police impound..,.

..after I stopped laughing and sharing it with my Lady and some of my partners, I got a real kick out of most of the responses by people who had NO problem being deleted as his friend...pobre vato pendejo...he's so talented, too!

Oh well, the Land of 1000 Dances continues to bounce, sizzle, and rock & roll, watcha:

If you missed it, PEPE MARQUEZ, ANTHONY PRIETO, HOUSE ARREST, and MESTIZO rocked the Annual Avocado Festival solid a couple weeks ago up in Carpinteria. Well over 10,000 people enjoyed food, music, and great weather by the beach for 4 straight days. Music was the best!

One of the most busiest guys in L.A. music lately has been my friend RAY CARRION, master guitarist extraordinaire.

A couple weeks ago, he performed in a wonderful TITO PUENTE tribute concert in Hollywood with a great ensemble of Latin Jazz musicians, many who had played with Tito in the past. BOB DeSENA also joined in as a guest star. Show was standing room only all night long! Rocked MY boat!

A week later, he came to the historic San Fernando American Legion Hall and performed with his EAST LOS Band, which included Midniter great JIMMY ESPINOSA, and ROBERT ZAPATA of Cannibal & the Headhunters fame. They rocked and rolled for 3 solid sets to another sold out house. The dude was pure energy and talent!

He returned a week later as a "hired gun", and performed flawlessly with the great LOUIE PARRA & The MAD LATINS, helping put on a marvelous dance concert to another packed house. Talk about a party!

The next night found him back home in East L.A. as his EAST LOS Band performed at RUDY's BAJA GRIlLL...

...and this is a guy who works full time in the real world, and maintains a family, raising two young sons with his lovely Lady Maria.

GET ON WIT YO BAD SELF, Ray! You set a good example for young, up-coming musicains!

The response to the combination of Ray and Louie was so good, they have just been invited to return to the San Fernando American Legion Hall for New Year's Eve, where other special guests have been invited. It's going to be all the way live, and tickets are on sale now at 818-361-4621. Your host & house DJ : Frankie Firme

Both parties were all the way live, with plenty of Gente falling out in costume and having a great time before the kids do their thing this Monday night. (Duran & Frankie were looking pretty good too! LOL!)

November 11th is VETERAN's DAY, and we ask that we all take time to thank our U.S. Military Veterans for the freedom they have provided and protected for the past 234 years, and remember our guys & gals serving in the middle east at this time.

Now remember, this is VETERAN'S DAY, NOT MEMORIAL DAY!!.

We honor the LIVING Veterans on this day....so please...NO candle light vigils, please (which honor the dead).

That being said, one of the biggest Veteran's Day parades in California, the San Fernando Valley Veteran's Day Parade takes place on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in San Fernando/Mission Hills on Friday November 11th, starting at 11:11am. Featuring School marching bands & performing squads, Veteran's groups, military floats, military marching units, community organizations, and celebrities, ending at Richie Valens Park in Pacoima, where a carnival will be available for the public.

After the parade, a free bar-b-que will be offered to the public by the Veterans of the San Fernando American Legion at the San Fernando American Legion Hall, followed by a U.S. flag retirement ceremony performed by the Veterans of the San Fernando American Legion and San Fernando Valley Marine Corps League, narrated by Internet Radio's Frankie Firme. The National Anthem will be performed by recording artist SARAH MORGAN.

After that, the doors will open at 6:30pm for the San Fernando Valley Marine Corps League's presentation of FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE LEGION, featuring the Legendary California King of Latin Jazz, MR. BOB DeSENA and his Latin Jazz Band. In between, Frankie Firme will spin the tunes for your dancing and dining pleasure, followed by the ever popular KOOL KATZ, straight out of San Jose, making a stop in San Fernando to honor and perform for our Veterans and their families.

Donation is only $15.00 and go directly to a good cause.

Special expected VETERAN guests include East L.A. Revue Radio's STEVEN CHAVEZ (U.S. Air Force), LatinoLA's ABELARDO de la PENA Jr (U.S. Army), THEE MIDNITERS founding member & drummer GEORGE SALAZAR (U.S. Army)

Good word about some other musician friends of mine of the BROWN persuasion: the BROTHERS n' BLUES band have just been picked to supply some music for a major motion picture TTHE ROAD TO JUAREZ" starring William Forsyth. Trailer called be viewed on www.kickstarter.com. This is great news about some Chicano music artists finally getting the nod from Hollywood while they're still alive & performing.

LatinoLA takes great pride in congratulating Mark Sells and the BROTHERS n' BLUES for their years of hard work on the road finally paying off.

Frankie Firme has a new show entitled "1971 Cruising Cholo plus 40" on www.eastLArevue.com ~ taken from a 40 year old 8-track tape recently re-discovered in my garage after many years...hope you enjoy a cruise back into yesterday, for you good looking Veteranos y Veteranas....

...and speaking of 1971, Roosevelt High School's class of 1971 is having their 40-year reunion on November 5th at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello.

All East L.A. schools including Garfield, Lincoln, Wilson ( homes of the Chicano Movimiento) are cordially invited to come out and represent. Entertainment will be provided by CHICO and COLD DUCK. For tickets & info: 626-253-5242 and tell em' you heard if from Frankie Firme!

COLD DUCK also has a 3 day cruise to Ensenada coming up next year...more info on that later.....by the way, COLD DUCK is still rockin' after more than 25 years in the Land of 1000 Dances and recently blew the roof off Zendeja's in San Dimas.

SOUL PURSUIT, another great band from the Land of 1000 Dances, kicks up chancla and performs live at Sandra's Mexican Grill & Cantina in Chino Hills on November 5th. These guys REALLY put on a great show, and get you in the mood for dancing! For more info: 909-597-1112.

The SATISFACTION BAND comes to town at Maggie's Pub in Santa Fe Springs on November 25th. One of my favorite bands on the planet featuring Chris "Lil Santana" Reserva on guitar. I'm gonna be there...hope you will be too! For more info: www.satisfactionband.com.

As always, the best music in the World is heard on www.eastLArevue.com and www.ChicanoExpress.com, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, rain or shine.

Keep a prayer in your hearts for our guys & gals serving overseas in uniform, protect and educate our young, respect our women, and NEVER forget where we all came from !

?íAy te watcho, from the Land of 1000 Dances!
