?ŪOrale, Mi Gente!

Loving that Califas spring weather ‘«Ű sunshine/rain/sunshine - the kind that only happens in the Land of 1000 Dances, Aztlan.

I got Bruthas & their Ladies going skiing in the snow, swimming & surfing at the beach, 4 wheeling in the desert, hiking in the hills, bar-b-queing at the parks & in their backyards‘«™and of course, dancing to the music of Southern Kali, Westside America!

‘«™beats the hell out of ducking bullets and bombs in the Middle East, que no?...thanks to our guys & gals in uniform, we enjoy this freedom & safety in America‘«™let's all be thankful and take a minute to pray for their safety & quick return‘«™and maybe kick down a care package‘«™?

‘«™hey, did you hear the recent news about the elderly couple that were flying in their private plane when the husband checked out in mid-flight with a heart attack, leaving his lady in the air with NO flying experience?...talk about getting even! (LOL!)

‘«™anyways, the news was all about how she was talked down by another pilot in another plane and the air traffic controller, landed the plane safely, and what brave heroes they all were‘«™

‘«™but NOTHING said about the deceased husband !... Pobre vato...I would hate to think there's an old deceased white dude everybody forgot about, still sitting in a parked plane getting ripe while his lady is being interviewed by radio & TV news‘«™may he RIP‘«™.

Oh well, on with the musica...watcha:

First and foremost, condolences go out to the family of popular East L.A. Revue Radio Personality/DJ Chico Manqueros on the loss of his father, Mr. Robert Manqueros, a most unforgettable man indeed.

A Tribute & Fundraising Concert/Show will be held on Sunday, April 22nd, at NICK'S TASTE OF TEXAS in Covina California , featuring such artists as BOB DeSENA, LOUIE CRUZ BELTRAN, BOBBY LOYA, BOBBY NAVARRETTE, THE RECESSIONS Band, JOHNNY HERNANDEZ, HANK CASTRO, and many more to be announced. I will honored to serve as Host & master of Ceremonies for the evening. For more info, e-mail: stevenchavez68@hotmail.com.

I gotta say, stepping out in the Land of 1000 Dances looking for music, dancing, and entertainment is like rolling the dice and coming up 7's every time‘«™

2 Fridays ago, I joined Mr. Gilbert Esquivel, Cable TV's Lou Pizzaro, and the proud Veterans of the historic San Fernando American Legion Post 176 as we put on the (first of three) Memories Dance Show. Serving as Host, MC, and House DJ, we spun the Oldies from the 60's,70's and 80's, danced , laughed and partied the night away.

Of course, Comedian Gilbert Esquivel had them busting up in the aisles in between sets, and was joined by Comedian Rick Izqieta for some added laughs. Also, guest appearances by singers Lil' Andy Rojo of the BUMPTOWN Band, and Paulina Diaz made the night just a little more special as the standing room only crowd partied hardy and a good time was had by all. Party was so good, we gonna do it again on Friday, April 27th at the same place. For tickets & more info : 310-518-2229 or e-mail: gnrentertainment@aol.com ‘«™come out and dance to the Oldies .

The next night, we stepped out to the newly remodeld PALOMA ROOM
(formerly the Montebello Inn) on Whittier Blvd, as guests of Mr. Cory Silva, as COLD DUCK hit the stage for a full night of music and dancing, celebrating SATISFACTION Band's lead singer Robert Benavides's birthday. Man! I haven't heard them in years, but Cold Duck still has it going on! "We've had some personnel changes over the years, and I'm the only original member from the 1972 band left, but as you can see, we still can pack a dance floor," band leader Jose "Chepe" Cuadra tells LatinoLA ‘«™and he wasn't lying! Birthday Boy Robert Benavides, former lead singer of Cold Duck, rejoined his original band and sang his heart out for the crowd, but HE seemed to be having the most fun! He was also joined by his beautiful daughter, singer Eileen Benavides, and it was a great party till closing. COLD DUCK has a 3 day cruise to Ensenada and more great gigs in the mix. For more info on Cold Duck: www.coldduck.com.

Word on the street that the popular & sexy girl group from the 1980's THE FLIRTS, came back from time to prove they still "got it" ( AND the legs!) and put on a great 80's Disco show at the Whittier Radisson Hotel‘«™I missed that one!

Feeling lucky, I rolled the dice again the following week, and came out lucky!

Last Friday, we stepped out to STEVE's BAR-B-QUE in Whittier , and caught a killer, standing room only performance by the powerful SOTO BAND.

Another good band I hadn't heard in awhile, my lady & I were VERY pleased at the night's show put on by the Soto brothers, Bruce & Artie, master keyboardist Joey Guerra, drummer Danny Santillan, and 2 new lead singers, and a soon to be released new song. With some great food and a great crowd, it turned out to be a great evening. SOTO is currently "tearing it up" and gigging pretty regularly all over Sounthern Califas. For more info: www.sotoband.com.

The following night was another "7", as SATISFACTION packed 'em in at Club Sash in Norwalk, Vanessa Hernandez and the TEASE Band drew a crowd at Steve's Bar-B'Que in Whittier, and COLD DUCK hit it again at Sandra's Mexican Grill & Cantina in Chino Hills‘«™and word from the LatinoLA Road Dogs is that ALL of them jammed fine for the Gente!

Easter Sunday was another fine day in Califas as almost EVERYBODY I knew kicked it with friends & familia, and enjoyed good meals and lots of laughs as we waited for the rains‘«™
