Last Monday I couldn't have spent my evening in a better place than on the very stage of the classic Hollywood Bowl. I was invited to attend the celebration gala of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's upcoming summer season, and let me tell you "Angelinos," forget about vacationing outside of our city this summer! You will probably want to stay in town because the acts being presented this year are exciting, fun and nothing short of amazing.
As the evening progressed I learned that among the acts this year, there are family events such as Disney's "Pixar" in concert, musicals like the unforgettable "Grease Sing-Along" and for your kids; what better than "Summer Sounds".
What about spending the afternoon here on July Fourth this year? Singer Barry Manilow will perform at the annual Independence Day fireworks spectacular featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Not bad, right? Let's make it a date! Of course there are other many concerts featuring the Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudamel, LA Phil's music director, who has many dates on the calendar this summer for you to enjoy.
What I am really ecstatic about is LA Phil's focus on "Latinizing" this summer series with a festival that will feature Hispanic acts and sounds. The Americas and Americans series is presented this summer with the intention to spotlight music from across North and South America, explore the eclectic musical traditions born from our unique blending of cultures, religions and landscapes. During the gala on Monday - the charismatic Gustavo Dudamel walked us through the upcoming nights of salsa, bachata and even mariachi with acts by Ruben Blades, Juan Luis Guerra and Placido Domingo all performing with orchestra conducted by Dudamel!
The LA Phil's Hollywood Bowl season runs from June through November and there are many other concerts to choose from. If you have not been to the Hollywood Bowl you must check it off your list this summer. It is an extraordinary venue that allows for an afternoon picnic with family and friends before a great performance. Or who wouldn't want to ease up the evening with a little wine and your date with the sunset as your background? Romantic, no? I honestly can't wait. It should be a fun summer of amazing music.
To conclude, this fabulous evening was full of great music, fashion, refreshing drinks and great people. I had the opportunity to meet and chat with LA Phil's president Deborah Borda; sweet lady who infused us with her enthusiasm and passion for what's coming. I already have my list of concerts I would like to attend - Juanes with Orchestra being one of them! Click on the links below for more info and you will see everything in store for you. Here is to a great summer! Hope to see you there!
