Week three of La Estrella de Panorama Mall on Sunday, July 29th brought hours of excitement and surprises for guests of all ages who attended. Judges at the event were DJ Ray from Power 106/Limelight Entertainment, Nancy Ramirez Flores from Mariachi Aztlan de San Fernando and Dr. Anthony Luu from USC School of Music.
The event began with a special dedication to actress Lupe Ontiveros, who passed away on July 26. Francisco Verdin took a moment to share her contributions to Hollywood and the community with the audience.
Nine contestants, from teens to seniors, competed for a chance to enter the Semi-Finals. Cumbias, Rancheras and Banda selections were the choices for the week. Like previous weeks, contestants of all levels participated and enjoyed their moment in the spotlight. At the end, the winners were Flor Aguirre, Cristal Morales, and Carlos Pacheco (pictured).
A somewhat shy yet seasoned teen, Cristal Morales, surprised the crowd and judges with "Amor Eterno" by Juan Gabriel. Carlos Pacheco, from Bell, was simply passing through Panorama Mall last week when he saw the competition and entered immediately. Pacheco performed "El Rogon" by Jorge Negrete and caught the eyes and ears of the audience with his full Mariachi trajes, stage presence and polished vocals. Flor Aguirre performed "Ahora Que Estuvistes Lejos" by Jenni Rivera and backed up her selection with some fancy cumbia steps.
Pollito, Pollo Campero's mascot, also made a special appearance at the event. Pollito danced with guests, took photos and handed out free empanadas. During the intermission, contestants and the public were also invited on stage to dance while DJ No System mixed it up on the turntables.
What a perfect way to beat the San Fernando Valley heat on a Sunday.
