As one of the few (dare we say, only) roots music acts on the Hootennanny bill, the bicultural musicianship of Los FabuLocos were both original and pleasing to the average '50s rock & roll connoisseur. Los FabuLocos injected meat and potatoes rock with classic Norte??a flavor. By that we mean that front man Jesse Cuevas can play a mean accordion.
Flashing his prowess during songs like "Mexico Americano," Cuevas executed finger-licking runs over tight polka rhythms that briefly turned this Fourth of July Party into a Cinco De Mayo bash. Not an easy thing to do in front of a mostly white audience.
Although this performance took place 2 years ago, Kid Ramos along with James Barrios (bassist) leaving, the mission has not changed or has it been compromised, Audiences continue to be won over by Los Fabulocos as they venture in to music venues catering to crowds that would not normally listen to an "Americana, Cali-Mex" flavored group. They are often compared to Los Lobos & Texas Tornadoes.
Los FabuLocos released their 2nd CD entitled "Dos" that was critically acclaimed in the U.S. and Europe. "Dos" placed 24th in the "Top 100 Roots Rock Albums 2011" put out by Roots Music Report. Other notables that were: (26) Jeff Beck, (31) Allman Brothers Band, (34) Bruce Springsteen, (42) Los Lobos, (43) John Mellencamp, (61) Lynyrd Skynyrd, (90) Neil Young (93) Los Lonely Boys.
