On Wednesday, September 19, in an effort to address the growing U.S. education gap, New Futuro, Allstate Insurance Company, and over 300 world class organizations partnered to launch a first-of-its-kind bilingual educational community. In attendance were representatives from Teach for America, Latino Education & Advocacy Days (LEAD), the Mexican Consulate, Lumina Foundation, NYC Department of EDU, and Allstate Insurance Company, all proud partners of this incredible program that is set to reach more than 15 million Hispanics this year alone.
The New Futuro program includes a national College Prep Tour presented by Allstate and a dynamic, fully bilingual educational and career planning website that currently hosts the largest database of Hispanic scholarships available online. The College Prep Tour will travel to Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, offering in each city several Road to College workshops and a one-day College Fair; all events are bilingual, free and open to the public. Allstate will also be donating a total of $45,000 in scholarship funds, which participants can enter to win at each workshop and fair.
Nationally, only 13% of college graduate-aged Latinos report having earned a bachelor's degree or higher--that's three times less than their non-minority counterparts according to the National Center for Education Statistics. New Futuro uses the Collective Impact Social Change model as its framework and provides free tools, resources, and ongoing guidance designed specifically to help Latinos reach their educational and career goals.
