America Ferrera will graduate from USC on May 17th, earning her bachelor's degree in international relations after starting the program at USC in 2002 and taking a leave of absence during her work on "Ugly Betty".

Nominees were announced for Univision's Premios Juventud including Prince Royce, Jenni Rivera, Larry Hernandez, Ricky Martin, Jesse & Joy and Pitbull, among others.

Wisin & Yandel's manager denied rumors that the duo is breaking up, clarifying that they are currently both recording separately, but their solo plans will not interrupt their duo work.

Jennifer Lopez has reportedly purchased a home in the Hamptons for $10 million.

Raquel Pomplun was selected as Playboy's 2013 Playmate of the Year and is the magazine's first Mexican-American Playmate of the Year.

Nacional Records has partnered with music supervisor Randall Poster's Search Party Music to create El Search Party, a new venture focused on Latin music placement and licensing.

ABC Networks has picked up the pilot "Killer Women", based on the Spanish-language series "Mujeres Asesinas", which is slated to debut in the fall. Sofia Vergara is the series' executive producer along with her manager Luis Balaguer and Latin World Entertainment.

Telemundo has partnered with Ryan Seacrest Productions to create "Duelo Musical: Super Estrella", a musical-competition show where two well-known musicians will battle each other in music-based games and sing-offs that will be voted on by the audience. The network also revealed five new primetime novelas during its 2013-2014 Upfront presentation.

NPR and Miami member station WLRN have joined forces to expand NPR's Latin American and Caribbean coverage. NPR just opened a bureau in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Sao-Paulo based Lourdes Garcia-Navarro taking on the role of NPR's South America correspondent. Tim Padgett, former Latin America bureau chief for TIME Magazine, has joined WLRN in Miami and will cover the Americas.

Natalie Cole will release a Spanish-language album "Natalie Cole en Espa??ol" on June 25th featuring classic romantic songs and special guests Juan Luis Guerra and Andrea Bocelli.

The Hola Mexico Film Festival kicks off in Los Angeles tonight with a screening of Felipe Cazals' "Ciudadano Buelna". Actor Joaquin Cosio will be honored with a career achievement award and the opening night fiesta will also feature musical performances from Raul Y Mexia, Chicano Batman and Fernanda Ulibarri. www.holamexicofest.com


According to new data from the Pew Research Center, 69% of Latino high school graduates enrolled into college during fall 2012, 2% ahead of non-Hispanic whites and 6% more than African Americans.

Seven people, all Dominican Americans living in Yonkers have been charged in New York with a bank heist in which $45 million was stolen. A database of prepaid debit cards was hacked into and ATM machines were drained. The group's leader, Alberto Yusi Lajud-Pena was reportedly murdered in the Dominican Republic on April 27, found dead with a suitcase full of about $100,000.

Cleveland kidnap victim Gina Dejesus, who spoke Spanish at home prior to her abduction a decade ago, apparently has forgotten Spanish after 10 years in captivity.

Former Guatemalan dictator Efrain Rios Montt was convicted of genocide last week in connection with massacres and other crimes committed during his rule between 1982-1983. Montt was sentenced to 50 years in prison for genocide and another 30 years for crimes against humanity.

Malcolm Shabazz, the 28-year-old grandson of Malcom X, was killed in Mexico City after a reported violent dispute over a $1,200 bar tab. Two men, employees of the bar, have been arrested in connection with Shabazz' death, caused by blunt-force trauma injuries.

Univision is reportedly developing a Spanish-language adaptation of "Breaking Bad" for its UniM?ís network for 2014.

Dewar's launched it's "Dewaristas" campaign, featuring Juanes as its spokesperson, a live band competition that will seek to discover the next breakthrough talent in Latin music. Events will be held in New York, Miami and San Antonio and the winning band will open for Juanes in Miami in September. Bands can enter online at www.dewars.com/dewaristas, where unique content about the emerging Latin music scene will also be featured.

Univision announced at its upfront presentation that it has made a strategic investment in Robert Rodriguez' El Rey Network, slated to launch in December 2013. As part of the deal, El Rey will lead the curation of the network's content while Univision will handle back office operations, sales and distribution for El Rey.

Peter Sanchez has joined The Axis Agency as Executive Creative Director. Sanchez has previously worked with several agencies including Accentmarketing, Hablame, Wing Latino, Daily and Associates and Casanova Pendrill.

Robbie Lear, most recently managing director of EMI Mexico, has been tapped for the roll of GM at Get In Latin America, an artist-service company owned by Warner Music Group.

Telemundo Media announced the launch of Fluency, a Los Angeles-based studio aimed at producing multiplatform content including television, subscription video on demand and mobile networks.

Portada will host its Latin Content Marketing Forum in Miami on June 4th. Keynote speakers will include Jennifer Leen Berglund, Interactive Marketing Manager and Multicultural Marketing Manager at General Mills and Pepsi's Senior Director of Cultural Branding, Javier Farfan.

Telemundo announced the launch of TelemundoMas, its TV Everywhere service that will offer full-length episodes of more than 300 of Telemundo's programs.

Discovery U.S. Hispanic unveiled its 2013-14 Upfront slate this week including "Bear Grylls: escapando del infierno", "Prohibido", "La verdad increible", "Armando el Mundial" and the launch of its VROOM genre targeting car-lovers.
