Los Angeles Theatre Center (LATC) announced that Southwest Airlines will serve as the Official Airline sponsor of Encuentro 2014, the National Theatre Festival based at LATC, in downtown Los Angeles' historic core, from October 12- November 10.
Southwest Airlines has generously funded airline tickets for 100 artists from around the country who will be in residence during the festival. Additionally, Southwest Airlines will host the Grand Opening Reception of Encuentro on Thursday, October 16 at 10 p.m., following an evening of performances on LATC's several stages by the Latino Theater Company, Aurora Theater, Jose Torres Tama, Caborca Theater and INTAR.
"We are proud to help foster the legacy of multicultural performing arts, especially Latino Theater in the U.S., and support LATC's goal of exposing audiences to the complex Latino experience," said Southwest Manager of Community Affairs & Grassroots, Lidia S. Martinez.
Southwest Airlines joins The Doris Duke Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, The Ford Foundation, The James Irvine Foundation, The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and The L.A. County Arts Commission in generously supporting this groundbreaking theater festival that will bring together more than 19 theater companies and 150 artists from the U.S. and Puerto Rico to present 19 works that represent the multifaceted Latina/o experience onstage ÔÇô from violence at the border and pressing immigration concerns to the complexities of romantic relationships and families.
