My daughter Marisela and I recently attended a book signing at Chimaya Gallery in Los Angeles.
And we got to meet Mr. Cheech Marin. OMG what a thrill and honor to meet this man!
I got up really early Sunday Morning, and was just too excited for this event.
I drove from Santa Ana and went to pick up my daughter in San Pedro. From there we drove to Los Angeles.
We were an hour early so we walked around looking for a place to eat and have a drink.
We discovered a quaint Ecuadorian Restaurant about a block away from Chimmaya Gallery.
My daughter was hungry and I was thirsty....we were not sure it it was open..we went in and lucky for us it was open.
There was nobody in the restaurant, the owner and the waitress were to happy to see customers.
They greeted us, seated us, and gave us some free sample plates of chicken and goat meat with fried bananas, rice chips with a sauce to die for, and a sample of some Ecuadorian liquor. It was delicious.
My daughter order a cheese empanada and I order a Margarita.
The service and the food were phenomenal.
From there we walked back to Chimmaya Gallery.
Viewed the amazing Chicano Art on display ... a must see. As a visual Artist I was impressed and inspired by the Artists and the Arte.
I ran into Josefina Lopez, the Writer of Real Women Have Curves.
The the man of the hour came out: Cheech Marin. I have been wanting to meet Cheech for a long time and the wait was well worth it.
What a darling, charming, talented, and inspirational human being.
I introduced myself and talked to him for a few minutes. He was very personable and tentative.
He is a big supporter and collector of Chicano Art and Artist, so for that reason I wanted to meet him and I love his comedy and movies.
I really wanted to share this wonderful experience with the LatinoLA community.
