To expand health care services to the community, AltaMed Health Services, the nation's largest independent federally qualified community health center, has opened a new primary care center in South Gate. The new 28,000 square foot center, which houses 39 patient exam rooms and 10 dental rooms, has the capacity to treat a large volume of patients each day. Services offered at this location include: family practice, pediatrics, OB/GYN, behavioral health and dental services.
Beginning October 1, general pediatric care, a pediatric urgent care center and a complex care clinic for pediatrics will be co-staffed by physicians who provide the award-winning care at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) as an expansion of the organizations' partnership.
"Nine out of every 10 children are taken to facilities that do not have the right staff to provide pediatric care. From child-sized needles to instruments sized for children of all ages, most facilities are not fully prepared to care for children," said Cástulo de la Rocha, President and CEO of AltaMed Health Services. "Through this partnership, we aim to increase our staffing and improve access to pediatric care for thousands of children across the county."
Through the partnership with CHLA and the CHLA Medical Group, AltaMed has been able to bring premier pediatric expertise to the care of children in its communities for more than a decade, resulting in hundreds of thousands of children receiving this expert pediatric primary medical care. The AltaMed clinic on CHLA's main campus alone has delivered care for approximately 600,000 pediatric patient visits over the past twelve years and now fields more than 90,000 patient visits each year--with care overseen by more than 150 physicians with dedicated pediatric expertise.
"As a nationally-ranked pediatric academic medical center, CHLA is continually improving the care it provides for children in the community," said Paul S. Viviano, President and CEO of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. "We are proud to partner with an institution that shares CHLA's commitment to expanding access to pediatric care across Los Angeles County. This partnership in South Gate will embed CHLA's physician expertise into the community, making world-class care more accessible and more convenient for the region's families."
"It is an honor to be able to provide pediatric expertise for children at AltaMed's South Gate location," adds Larry J. Harrison, Chief Executive Officer of the Children's Hospital Los Angeles Medical Group. "By partnering with AltaMed, we have extended services, offering world-class pediatric care to young patients and families in South Gate and its surrounding areas."
