Forming the Next Generation of Latino Filmmakers

DIRECTV CINEMA + Becas grants three Latino film students international scholarships to the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California (USC) for the first time in its 4th year running.

Since 2013, DirecTV and AT&T have partnered with expert jurors to execute the difficult task of selecting participating short films that stand out in this contest. This year, Guillermo Tronchon, Daniel Riglo Flores, and Alice Nicolau are the three talented filmmakers from Uruguay, Peru, and Brazil that showed a promising future in the field. The experience these Latino filmmakers gained is extremely relevant. Aside from classes at USC, the students spent time at the Disney studios every week where they met and networked with people in the field – from producers to the president of the company, allowing them to learn firsthand the world inside of Hollywood.

AT&T and DirecTV are dedicated to celebrating and growing Latin-American cinema by evolving the next generation of talented filmmakers. These companies transmit Latin-American programming to homes everywhere, support film festivals and invest in educating new generations of talented creatives in the field that are producing films in the region.
