The goal of the STEM Academy of Boyle Heights is to increase the number of students who enter college and graduate with a STEM degree. Today that goal is more attainable thanks to AT&T and HACEMOS, a leading Latino employee group at AT&T.
At the Community Tour for the STEM Academy of Boyle Heights, AT&T and HACEMOS presented the Si Se Puede Foundation with $20,000. The Si Se Puede Foundation helps fund and operate the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics teams at the STEM Academy of Boyle Heights High School. Through this program, the students learn how to improve their mechanical and electrical engineering skills to use in a high demand workforce. The contribution given today will be used to give out scholarships and purchase much needed equipment for the student's robotics program.
During the event, guests were able to talk to administrators, teachers and students about their experience and projects. Some notable attendees included Assembly Member Miguel Santiago, LAUSD Board President Monica Garcia and LAUSD Superintendent Jose Huerta.
