The Best Mariachi in the World


The legendary Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, internationally acclaimed as the world's best mariachi group, makes a rare local appearance at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse on Saturday, October 10, and at the Pearson Park Amphitheatre in Anaheim on Sunday, October 11.

The San Gabriel show features Grammy nominee Nydia Rojas as opening act. Hailed as one of the country's best ranchera voices, Rojas appears with the highly acclaimed Teo Franco y su Trio San Pedro in a performance of romance-inspired bolero classics.

The San Gabriel show begins at 8 p.m. at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, 320 S. Mission Dr. in San Gabriel. Tickets range from $40 to $100.

Featured opening act in Orange County is the acclaimed Mariachi Anacatlan of Anaheim. The show at Pearson Park in Anaheim begins at 5:45 p.m. and is located at 400 N. Lemon St. Tickets range from $30 to $50.

Long acclaimed as "The Best Mariachi in the World," Mariachi Vargas was founded in Tecalitlán, Jalisco, Mexico by Gaspar Vargas in 1897. Now based in Mexico City, Mariachi Vargas has performed throughout the world, recorded dozens of top-selling albums, and starred in more than 200 movies. They have collaborated with many artists, including Linda Ronstadt on her release, "Canciones De Mi Padre."

Mariachi Vargas has had a major influence on the development of mariachi music through the years and maintains the classic style of violinist Ruben Fuentes, who joined the group in 1944.
