How Do Chicanos Party on Mardi Gras and St. Patricks' Day?

Ollin, the world-folk-punk fusion outfit from East L.A. has just announced their two annual winter/spring shows. On Fat Tuesday, Ollin will headline a Mardi Gras party at the Echo Plex February 16th. Also on the bill Mentiritas, featuring Wil-Dog, Bully, Ulysses from Ozomatli and Alfredo Ortiz from the Beastie Boys. Las Cafeteras a female lead Son Jarocho group from East LA and Upground the Latin-soul booty shakers from the East side. Ollin will be performing music from New Orleans while dancers shake their souls for beads.

On St. Patrick's Day Ollin will perform Rum, Sodomy and the Lash by The Pogues as well as many other traditional Irish tunes. This yearly tradition has a following unto its own. Ollin themselves have opened for The Pogues, in San Diego, LA and in New York on St. Patrick's Day at The Roseland Ballroom 2008. Opening for this year show is singer songwriter Brant Bjork, a true artist of Mexican and Irish descent. Also: Last Man Standing, from England and DJ Tumors and DJ Jake. This year's show will be held at The Echo in Echo Park.
