One Love Foundation Hosts Premios Libertad at Circus Disco


One Love Foundation will host its first annual Premios Libertad on Thursday Nov. 4 2010 at Circus Disco in Hollywood.

The awards show will recognize the work that celebrities, community leaders, press media and social organizations have done in support of the Latino lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community across the United States. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to a social organization that provides HIV/ Health services to the Latino community; this year's recipient is Bienestar.

"There are more than 20 categories honoring people from different fields whose work has helped to promote respect and the human rights of the Latino LGBT community" says Jazmin Garcia, co-founder of One Love Foundation.

Among the nominees with two nominations are Jenni Rivera, Maria Jose, Anahí and Christian Chávez.

Also, confirmed to perform are Carmen Jara, Sheyla Tadeo, Ines Gaviria, Erika Vidrio, Marilyn Fernandez and Fedro.

The categories include: female and male radio DJ's with closer ties to the LGBT community, hottest radio station, most popular designer, most inspiring young artist and entrepreneur of the LGBT community.

Among the nominees for celebrity most supportive of the LGBT community are singers Edith Márquez, Cristina Eustace, Anais, María José and Yuri.

The candidates for the One Love-Changing Lives Award are four international artists who brought public attention to issues like the risks of plastic surgery, anorexia, domestic abuse and discrimination. They are Alejandra Guzmán, Anahí, Jenni Rivera, and Sheyla Tadeo respectively.

Competing in the most popular politician category are state Assemblyman John A. Perez, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina and State Senator Gil Cedillo.

Other personalities that stand out in other categories are radio DJ Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo, activist Dolores Huerta, Psychologist and Writer Silvia Olmedo, TV talk-show hostess Cristina Saralegui, TV news anchor Maria Elena Salinas, and singers Carmen Jara, Beatriz Adriana and Graciela Beltrán.

The awards also recognize the best blog about health, relationships and HIV, most inspiring young artist, entrepreneur of the LGBT community and TV news show with highest impact on the LGBT community.

"There have been great strides towards the acceptance and understanding of homosexuals in our Latino community and all of our nominees have contributed and continue to support with their ongoing work, words and examples", says Raúl González, another co-founder of One Love Foundation.

Premios Libertad is the first major project of One Love Foundation. "Our organization was founded to raise awareness and prevention of HIV and AIDS among all Latinos through media campaigns, from television and radio to print and Internet", says co-founder Victoria Ruiz.

"HIV does not discriminate nor is it exclusive, it's time we work as one with our entire Latino community to make a real difference and what better way than to unite the artistic, political, social aspects and media outlets in order to reach the public," says co-founder Mario Velasco.
