An Authentic Dia de Los Muertos at Rose Hills

To share the rich tradition and history of D?¡a de los Muertos, Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary hosts the inaugural D?¡a de los Muertos Cultural Festival in honor and to celebrate loved ones who have passed away. The free family event will take place Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the SkyRose Chapel. This will become a signature event to share the culture and traditions of the D?¡a de los Muertos festivity with all generations.

The festival will feature activities including an art exhibit inside the SkyRose Chapel showcasing the talents of various local and renowned artists, including this year's featured artist, Lalo Alcaraz, nationally syndicated cartoonist who will be sharing some of his D?¡a de los Muertos inspired artwork.

There will be an arts & crafts area for children in the Jardin de la Rosa with mini-workshops and interactive activities with local artists; a food court with delicious selections from various local vendors including some food trucks; a local vendor area featuring D?¡a de los Muertos inspired arts and crafts; a full program of performances and entertainment including local folkl??rico dance groups and a special performance by La Santa Cecilia.

In addition, families are creating their own altars and entering the community altar contest featuring a corridor for display and celebration.

"We're excited to bring this festivity to life and share with our communities the rich history and traditions that go hand-in-hand with it," stated Ernesto Morales, Executive Director of Business Development for Rose Hills. "From building altars to papel picado and art, we invite all generations to come together and pay homage to their loved ones in a truly authentic and respectful celebration. What a better place to do it that than Rose Hills Memorial Park and we're happy to host this special community event."

This year's sponsors of the Cultural Festival include: Athens Services, Chivas USA, Downey Regional Medical Center, El Tepeyac Restaurant, Goya Foods, Jarritos, La Favorita Bakery and Set?í Restaurant; partners include Rio Hondo College and Univision Radio and KRCD Recuerdo.
