News from the Brown Side of Town

Orale, Mi Gente!

Things are cooling down in Aztlan as the weather is starting to chill, and the rains are coming, signaling the end of another year....

But the elections are getting hotter here en Califas....notice how every other commercial is one candidate bashing another?? Sheesh!

...makes me scratch my head that such evil, wicked white people have been able to get so rich without getting shot or kidnapped, or experienced some kind of payback for screwing so many people over....and now they're spending millions on TV & radio commercials to get elected to a powerful public office, where they will have control over the lives and MONEY of the people they screwed over...AND their children...

...think about THAT, mi Gente!...and PUH~LEEZE get out there and vote!

On a sad note that reflects the STILL struggling economy and where our society is heading, I notice there's more robberies being committed by older adults, families that had a hold of their homes for years are losing them to foreclosure as greedy banks and lenders have found a new way to keep the real estate market afloat while making money by selling off to rich foreigners
( and NOT Latino foreigners, either!), more young girls are being threatened while just walking to & from school, and there's more fatal hit & run murders lately in the news.....

...excuse my expletive, but WTF ????....one of my first thoughts in the upcoming elections is which candidate is doing the less opponent bashing, and promoting what THEY will do? The candidate who starts talking about doing right for our children and our society gets my vote!

As far as more young girls are being threatened while just walking to & from school...I say we enact a mandatory castration penalty for these putos who prey on little girls and boys...then give them justice, Al Hernandez style...not just a slap on the wrist, a fine, and court ordered counseling, but JUSTICE behind bars with the homies, where defense attorneys fear to tread and life IS worse than death....THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY for disgracing the Raza with inexcusable, no class behavior, no matter HOW you grew up!

Orale! Enough of the caca in the snow....let's get on with the musica, watcha:

One of the first holidays at the end of the year is Halloween. This one's for the kids, and I encourage you all to get out there and join the mijos & mijas that have NOTHING to do with the economy or the state of our society...but they will soon inherit it. It's not just for the candy, mi Gente, it's for the fun of socialization and getting families out to feeling the freedom of walking our streets again. This is OUR land!

One good thing about this holiday is that for the past couple of years, I've noticed some pretty chingon looking dads, grandpas, tios, and big brothers out there escorting the kids so the idiots & pendejos don't give them any hassle....and you'll see good old Frankie Firme out there with the best of them, with my two 75 lb. Boxer dogs on a leash, and some of the chingon Marines from the SFV Detachment of the Marine Corps League...keeping kids safe on the streets in our part of the San Fernando Valley, the way I hear it's starting to be done in other parts of Aztlan like East L.A. and west side San Antonio, Texas...orale!

And speaking of Halloween, the adults gotta have some fun, too, verdad ?

What the hell, if you aren't having your own Halloween bash, GO TO ONE !! Lots of them happening before Halloween Sunday, so VAMANOS!!

One of the better ones will be happening this Friday October 29th, at the San Fernando American Legion Hall , starting at 8pm when LOUIE PARRA & The MAD LATINS roll into town, bringing their fine sounds of funk, old school, rock & roll, oldies, cumbias, latin soul, and Midniter classics.

A full night of food, dancing, drinking, laughing & merrymaking , while supporting the Veterans of our community, as the Legion is time honored known to do. MC and DJ for the night will be yours truly, Frankie Firme.

And speaking of the San Fernando Valley, one of the biggest Veteran's Day parades in southern California will take place on Laurel Canyon Blvd, starting in Granada Hills, cruising through San Fernando, and culminating in a large community family carnival and picnic at Richie Valens Park in Pacoima on Thursday , November 11th, starting at 11am. The best Chicano music in the world is STILL being heard 24 hrs a day, around the World at : www.eastLArevue.com and www.ChicanoExpress.com

...why live life without music ?

Last week, I attended a private party where I finally got see PACHUCO JOSE y Los DIAMANTES live and in person. Man ! What a show this vato puts on! PURO CHICANO classic!

If you ever wondered what kind of music the original Chicano chigas-patas/vatos locos ever boogied and fell in love to, PACHUCO JOSE seriously brings it back and keeps it alive! Puro Zoot Suit, Pachuco boogie, and "nasty" saxophone.

The next chance to catch this unique vato, his camaradas, and his unique act wil be at Ruben Molina's JIVE TURKEY BALL on Saturday, November 27th, starting at 8PM, at the VFW Hall in the City of Industry. Also performing will be KATHY TAFOYA & THE BIG BEAT, along with WINO BOOGIE. Put on your Zoot Suit, tongo, get your lady to hook up the high heels and a nice dress, and come on out and get ready to ponle chancla y tardear! Just added: "Mr. Nite Owl" TONY ALLEN. Another uniquely BROWN event brought to you by Brother Ruben Molina. For more info: www.ChicanoSoul.com. See you there!

Nothing better than cruising in a fine ride, listening to good music, and enjoying the style & class of LA RAZA at their mellow best, right ? Pues orale! Saturday, November 6th, the CANYON CITY CLASSIC CAR CLUB de Azusa put on their Annual Cruise Night on Foothill Boulevard in Azusa, connecting everybody up at CALIFORNIA BURGERS on Foothill, where all car clubs are invited to park, hang out, and socialize, while DJ music ( and YOU KNOW it's the best in oldies but Goodies) will be provided by yours truly FrankiFirme, from 4pm to 10 pm. In my neighborhood, one of the better places to hang out is the neighborhood barbershop. You get hear all the latest sports news and neighborhood gossip, see all the guys, get the latest "adult homie" perspective on current news, maybe enjoy a cold beer...and, oh yeah....get a haircut !

My good friend comedian Rudy Moreno recently informed me about the shop in his neighborhood of Monterey Park (the Chicano side), where his favorite clip joint, ELI's Barber Shop on Garfield Avenue was mistaken for a parking space by a wayward driver, and the whole place was trashed, bashed, and destroyed. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but the barbers have had to go elsewhere, and the guys have had to go elsewhere for that taste of neighborhood and a haircut....pues que gacho!!...can't my homie go out like that (have you ever SEEN Rudy with long hair?)

So, on Sunday, November 7th, starting at 5pm, a fundraiser bash for ELI's will be held starting at 5pm. Comedy show, music, dancing, and dinner, all for a good neighborhood cause at Rudy's Baja Grill in East L.A. Stop by and show the brothers some Brown love. For more info: call 323-722-7992. All donations welcome. You NEVER know who just might show up.....

And speaking of Rudy Moreno, he and his brother comedians GILBERT ESQUIVEL, DARREN "The Rooster" CARTER, CHRIS "Kid" REID, and JEFF GARCIA will be hanging out, partying, and having a Thursday night Comedy Show at the Pacific Palms Hotel in the City of Industry (formerly known as the Industry Hills Hotel & Equestrain Center), this Thursday, October 28th, starting at 9:00 pm. For more info: 626-854-2508. EVERYBODY'S invited for a good time !...laughter is the best medicine!

Saturday, October 30th, the "Diamond of the Valley", multi-talented singer-performer Ms BECKY CORDOVA of the COMPANY BAND fame, joins the Soul Man of Santa Barbara, Mr. PEPE MARQUEZ and his LATIN SOUL REVIEW Band up in Carpinteria for one night only at the PALMS Restaurant. Known for killer "cook it yourself" steaks, fresh seafood, great service, great drinks
( I HIGHLY recommend the margaritas!), and dancing till 2am, the PALMS welcomes Pepe & Becky and all lovers of good music and good times. Orale, that's the best it gets for now, Mi Gente!

As always, I wish you well and implore you to respect and protect our women and children, value education and respect among our people while not putting down those less fortunate than yourself, fight the scourge of drug & domestic abuse, gang violence, and child abuse in our barrios, and keep a prayer in your hearts for our Veterans and brave men & women serving in uniform on foreign land in places like Afghanistan.

Keep a song in heart, love and laughter in your soul, and reach for the sky...

Ay te watcho, from the Land of 1000 Dances !
