Doing it for the Veterans on a Saturday Night

So many places to go to hear great music here in L.A. and around‘«™

Besides the great local talent we have in the Land of 1000 Dances that rocked from the west side to the east side to the inland empire, word has it that JOE BATAAN came in from New York, and VUDU CAF?Ž made a trip to the City of Angels via Texas this weekend, while GREG ESPARZA and THEE MIDNITERS rocked south L.A. and GEORGE SALAZAR and The 2nd Time Around Band rocked the San Gabriel Valley.

But word is also that THEE ticket was "Saturday Night at the Legion" in San Fernando this past weekend, where Santa Barbara 's ANTHONY PRIETO band made a triumphal return to this Southern California section of Aztlan.

Coming in 10 strong, Anthony and the guys, accompanied by the beautiful and multi-talented DENISE HERRERA at co-lead vocals, put on a dazzling and electrifying show for the Veterans of the San Fernando Valley Marine Corps League, the San Fernando American Legion, and about 200 of their close friends for a great night of wining and dining that kept the dance floor full till midnight.

I was honored to serve as house DJ and Mc for the night, and I also had a great time tirando chancla with my Lady and my brother Veterans during the evening.

With a powerful 4-piece fresh horn section that definitely got everybody's attention, killer guitar work from band leader CARLOS GUILLEN, and of course the magnetic stage presence and finesse of ANTHONY PRIETO, the crowd was treated to a great performance of custom cover songs and exciting original tunes from Anthony's 2 CD's, most of them written and arranged by Carlos Guillen .

With food offerings of tacos, burgers, nachos, rice, beans, salads, and fresh hot delicious bar-b-que ribs in a comfortable outdoor bistro like setting, juxtaposed with the indoor air conditioned ambiance of the ballroom themed decorated historic San Fernando American Legion Hall, and the very stage that helped launch RICHIE VALENS back in the day, the party was on from sundown on, as the many happy patrons of the evening were not disappointed at the Marine Corps League's production of a good party, aided by the American Legion.

"It's always an honor to perform and support our U.S. Veterans," Anthony said backstage, "I can't tell you how honored we are to come to the great City of San Fernando, and perform on one of the few stages Richie Valens ever performed on, while enjoying the love of a great crowd‘«™and just having a good time performing the music we love".

"This is a great crowd, and the band members all enjoyed being here," band leader Carlos Guillen said afterwards, as he was approached for CD's and business cards from the appreciative audience. " I had a great time playing tonight‘«™and looking forward to returning"‘«™.and NO doubt that will be happening !

The next "Saturday Night at the Legion" dance/concert is August 27th with the hot and popular SOUL PURSUIT Band. Tickets on sale now @ tunnelrat1968@yahoo.com or by calling 818-926-7380.

Another great party brought to you by the noble veterans of the San Fernando Valley .

The ANTHONY PRIETO Band's next scheduled performance is the Avocado Festival in Carpinteria , with brother Santa Barbara singing star Mr. PEPE MARQUEZ, on October 8th‘«™.where I'll see you there!
