A new report from the Pew Hispanic Center reveals that 6.1 million Latino children were living in poverty in 2010, more than any other racial or ethnic group. In 2010 37.3% of poor children were Latino, 30.5% were white and 26.6% were black.

According to a new study published in the Harvard Educational Review, children whose parents are undocumented immigrants or who themselves lack legal status suffer "uniformly negative" effects on their social development from early childhood into adulthood. Among the factors are a home environment of "fear and vigilance" making it less likely for parents to engage with teachers or be active in schools, less likely to enroll their children in public programs like child care subsidies, public preschool and food stamps.


62-year-old swimmer Diana Nyad ended another attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida 40 hours into the swim after suffering painful man o' war stings.
